Pastor's Pondering - october 2007
A friend of mine recently shared the experience of working in the local High School and it caused me to ponder! Let me share an excerpt.
“We are the only school district who has a free day-care for the teen mothers. We have classes in the curriculum for credits which include parenting, child development, and the next step. These classes are all useful to the young mothers and fathers but it seems like we are condoning having babies because teen pregnancy is on the rise here. They get free breakfasts and lunches and free periods to spend with their children. I knew several students who purposely got pregnant to get out of a bad situation at home. They just wanted somebody to love them. So they created a child. One young teen’s mother was in jail. Her uncle was in charge of her because she was still a minor. He was not that much older. She had to live with up to 30 people at a time in one house! So she chose to get pregnant by her black drug dealing boyfriend and live with him. I saw that she had her baby this summer and should have returned to school for her senior year. I have not seen her yet. Another teen was being abused by Mom's boyfriend. This happens a lot. Mother's subject there children to the guy of the week! My observation has been that most of the teens that are pregnant come from broken homes…….. I know that the new classes educate these young parents and have to benefit these precious little children, but it seems to be getting worse. I get to see all of the students bringing their babes to the daycare. Many of them have more than one child by the time that they are in High School. See what I mean? It never ends.
…..Not to leave out the Wicka kids and the Goths and the gang members too! There are many other kids……….who will be a success and go on to make something wonderful of their life. My student ……….. is also one of those students who will succeed. She is an inspiration to many” (edited)
It is not a coincidence that the two young people whose names I omitted, (in the last paragraph) are Christian youngsters who where brought up in Christian homes and attend Sunday school and Church regularly. When we as a nation removed God from our schools, we opened wide the door for satan to corrupt and destroy our children. OK! Now the bulls out of the pen!! What do we do? Be the example our children need….Find God and serve Him…..get those young people in church where they will find that relationship with God and learn how to live victoriously!!!
